Malta is a small archipelago in the Mediterranean known the world over for its climate, architecture, cuisine and beaches, making the republic a great place to get away from it all and unwind.

Malta is located south of Italy and close to Tunisia, right between tectonic plates. It is a very special location in the Mediterranean Sea, as its culture has been influenced by both European and African cultures. Its warm climate means it can be visited all year round.

Here are our favourite places in Malta and the ones that make for an unforgettable sailing trip.

Fortification of Valletta

Valletta is the capital of Malta. In 2018 it was declared European Capital of Culture, making it a must-see on a trip to the country. It can be enjoyed from the sea and from land.

Marsaxlokk Port

Blue Grotto

It is also known as the fishermen’s village. It is a small but picturesque village worthy of a postcard. This is the origin of the Luzzu, the gondolas you can see in the picture. They are used both for sightseeing and fishing.

One of the best days to visit this fishing village is Sunday, as it is the day of the Great Fish Market. In the mornings it is full of life and joy: you will get a first-hand experience of traditional life.

Blue Lagoon

Comino is, according to National Geographic, “the smallest island of the smallest country in Europe. Here, as the name suggests, as well as beaches, there are magnificent lagoons. There are few sandy areas, but it makes for a beautiful contrast between the coast and the sea.

Travelling by boat is the best option for getting to know the country, as the waters of the Mediterranean allow you to follow a perfect route around the island’s most legendary sites. In addition to being a COVID free holiday, it will allow you to escape from the more touristy routes, sailing at your own pace and enjoying the schedules that best suit you and yours.

The situation with COVID-19 is a bit special, so we recommend you visit the Visit Malta website for all the updates.
