Travel guide: boat tourism in the Channels of Europe and Canada.

1. Is previous experience in navigation or license necessary?

Become the captain of your own ship and discover river navigation. You do not need a license or previous experience! Get on board and we’ll teach you everything you need to know in a hands-on class after which you’ll be ready to start your cruise. It’s like driving a car, but much easier and more relaxing!

A boat cruise allows you to enjoy your vacation without having a planned route or a program, you can do what you want, stop where and when you want. Cook and dine on board or discover one of the charming restaurants along the waterways.

2. What does the price include:

Boat rental, its equipment, fully equipped kitchen with all necessary utensils and appliances, towels and sheets for all passengers, demonstration of the boat’s maneuvers, technical assistance, navigation map and information about the navigation region, lock rates and Welcome Pack: two bottles of local wine, six cans of beer, six bottles of water, a bottle of cola, a bottle of lemon soda, a bottle of juice, chips, crackers and peanuts.

It is NOT included in the price

Optional extras, partial bail exemption, operating costs (fuel, gas, engine wear), billed per engine hour, transfers to or from our bases, ground services if used (for example moorings, pumping, water, etc. .), cancellation and personal insurance, food and drink

 3. What are the characteristics and equipment of a boat?

All our boats are fully equipped so that you have a very comfortable life on board. The boat comes fully equipped with the material, complete kitchen utensils, bedding, towels and gas for the kitchen (fires and oven).

4. How much should I budget for fuel?

For a 7-night cruise, you can budget between 250 and 300 euros, depending on the size of your ship.

5. Can I pay a professional to take the boat for me?

No, we do not offer that service in canal boats. In most of our regions, you don’t need any previous experience to sail aboard our ships, so there is nothing to stop you from being the captain of your ship. You can enojoy your sea experiencie hiring a captain at our others destinations where you can sail in yachts, sailboats and catamarans.

 6. What is the minimum and maximum occupancy capacity of a boat?

There must be at least 2 adults (3 adults for bigger boats) over the age of 18 (21 in Ireland and Canada) on board to charter a boat, maneuver through the locks and navigate safely. The maximum occupancy capacity depends on the boat model

7. At what time can I pick up the boat? At what time should I return it?

Standard tickets start from 2pm. The base staff will try to call you during the week prior to your departure to reconfirm when you should arrive. They may ask you to arrive a little earlier or later, depending on the number of other departures on the same day. We ask you to arrive at the agreed arrival time. If you have booked and paid for a Priority Check-in, you will be able to arrive at the base from 11:00 am (Priority check-ins are subject to availability and must be booked in advance. If you wish to add it to your reservation, contact our sales team) .

After your arrival, we will need to spend some time with you to complete the check-in and we will notify you when you can do the pre-departure instruction. You will not be able to leave the dock immediately, but we will prepare you to leave as soon as possible in the afternoon or, in some cases, the next morning.

In Germany, if you do not have a license and want to sail in the parts of Germany where the permit is not necessary, you will need to undergo training before starting your cruise, which is taught at 2:00 p.m. every day

You must return the boat at 9:00 AM on the last day of your cruise.

8. What should I bring in the suitcase?

We recommend that you bring non-slip shoes (generally if they have rubber soles they are perfect), a pair of gloves and also travel bags (and not suitcases) since they are easier to store on board.

You can bring food, but most of our bases have a supermarket nearby that you can use. Otherwise, you can also order some things in advance through our supply packages.

9. How can I plan my route?

When you arrive at the base, you will receive a detailed navigation guide / map of your destination. This guide / map, showing all the canals and rivers, will allow you to navigate safely.

10. Can we order supplies in advance?

Take advantage of our provisioning service to choose a selection of packages that will be waiting for you on board when you arrive. These packages can only be booked in advance and are available at most of our bases.

10. Can I bring my animals on board?

Of course I do. Dogs are welcome on all of our boats. There will be an additional supplement per dog for cleaning. We recommend that you take no more than two animals per boat.
